FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Tuesday (4/9)

A 10-game main slate is on deck featuring just two contests with an O/U above nine runs. This calls for a deeper dive into the player pool with the hopes of hitting on some advantageous situations.

Here are nine players who could potentially go overlooked and provide value on Tuesday night.

Pitcher

Joey Lucchesi (SDP): $8,600 @ SFG
The Giants were a target in this space a week ago, and I’m going right back to the well on Tuesday. Lucchesi has yet to get past the sixth inning in either of his first two starts, but he’s made the most of his time on the bump. Currently possessing a 31.7% strikeout-rate, he should carve through the San Francisco lineup with relative ease. They have a bottom-five ranking in AVG, SLG, and wOBA.

Freddy Peralta (MIL): $8,300 @ LAA
A volatile player to this point in his young career, the soon to be 23-year-old will take on an Angels squad that is far from imposing. If he can avoid a Mike Trout eruption, Peralta could find himself finishing with a strong performance. His latest outing in Cincinnati was extremely impressive, going eight scoreless innings while earning 11 strikeouts along the way. He’s a boom-or-bust option but certainly a worthy one, particularly in GPPs.

Catcher/First Base

Christian Walker (ARI): $3,200 vs. TEX
Finding himself in the heart of the order due to a Jake Lamb quad injury, Walker looks to be a solid value against the lefty Mike Minor. The Diamondbacks’ offense has gotten off to an impressive start, which bodes well for his chances to produce counting stats. Still a relative unknown in the fantasy community, this is an ideal time to roster the emerging Walker.

Second Base

Rougned Odor (TEX): $2,900 @ ARI
Another player from this potential back-and-forth affair in Arizona, Odor has been lackluster to begin the season. Still, he’s been slotted toward the top of a deep Texas lineup. Although Chase Field doesn’t play as it once did, runs can still come in bunches there. With a matchup against a declining Zack Greinke and depressed ownership likely, Odor is worth a flier.

Garrett Hampson (COL): $2,600 vs. ATL
Hampson has yet to really get going, but the preseason buzz is still warranted. Capable of getting on base in a variety of ways with the ability to swipe bags, he could be of use in this particular matchup. He’s getting more playing time with injuries to Daniel Murphy and Ryan McMahon, so don’t sleep on him here. Young lefty Max Fried is not an easy matchup, but a $2,600 tag in Coors is too tantalizing to pass up.

Third Base

Chad Pinder (OAK): $2,500 @ BAL
Pinder has a few things going for him in this one. He’s underpriced, he’ll be hitting in Camden Yards, and he’s facing someone named John Means. With an MVP Baseball create-a-player name like that, I like Pinder’s chances of doing damage. He holds a .280/.349/.466 career line against lefties.

Shortstop

Amed Rosario (NYM): $2,500 vs. MIN
Hitting safely in all but one game to start the season, Rosario seems underpriced here. He bats in the lower third of New York’s lineup but should be presented with RBI opportunities against Twins RHP Kyle Gibson. A potential chip-in steal is within his range of outcomes, and he’ll garner little ownership. He has flashed the upside to cash in at this price.

Outfield

Wil Myers (SDP): $3,100 @ SFG
Although this game is not projected to be a slugfest, Myers has a power-speed combo that plays in any environment. Derek Holland is a quality left-hander, but one who can be knocked around a bit. The Padres lineup is not as easy to navigate, which has led to more fantasy-point producing opportunities for Myers.

Joc Pederson (LAD): $3,100 @ STL
Seeing time in the leadoff spot on a team ranked at the top of numerous offensive categories, Pederson makes for a great play against right-hander Dakota Hudson. His $3,100 cost does not prohibit a properly constructed lineup, and he supplies the kind of power upside needed to climb the leaderboards.
