Darren Waller: Giants consciously limited reps

According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, TE Darren Waller has received positive reviews from people at the New York Giants camp, but his reps have been limited as they focus on his health.

Fantasy Impact

Waller, who is currently 30, has dealt with injuries over the last couple of seasons. The Pro Bowl TE has played just 20 games in the last two years, prompting his trade to the New York Giants. Waller has averaged over 65 yards per game over the last four seasons, giving QB Daniel Jones one of the most dynamic weapons he has had in his career. His current half-PPR Expert Consensus Ranking is TE7, according to FantasyPros.

Jalin Hyatt largely working with third team in spring

According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, New York Giants rookie WR Jalin Hyatt has received a slow integration into the offense, working with the 3s in minicamp as he learns to be a pro wide receiver.

Fantasy Impact

One of Hyatt’s biggest knocks coming out of Tennessee was the simplistic offense and role in which he played during college. While Hyatt’s ability to keep up physically isn’t a question, he’s joining an offense that is predicated on timing and route concepts that he didn’t do in college as often. As he learns the system better, it’ll be a story to watch during July’s training camp, as he has a large number of veterans ahead of him he would need to unseat – Darius Slayton, Isaiah Hodgins, Parris Campbell, Wan’Dale Robinson, Sterling Shepard and Jamison Crowder.

Cam Akers to be ‘central figure’ in Rams’ offense, per McVay

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said on SiriusXM Mad Dog Sports Radio that RB Cam Akers has had a strong offseason, has built rapport with the team’s new RB coach and will be a “huge part” of what the Rams do in 2023.

Fantasy Impact

McVay also briefly mentioned RB Kyren Williams, who enters his sophomore season, but proceeded to call Akers a “stud” and say that he is in a good place physically, mentally and maturity-wise. Akers was a fantasy football frustration in 2022 when he fell out of favor in the Rams’ offense and the coaching staff said they wanted more out of him. With RB Darrell Henderson gone, Akers can potentially build upon his 2022 season where he still rushed for 786 yards on below-average efficiency while playing less than half of the team’s snaps. He can be drafted on average as the half-PPR RB22.
