Merrill Kelly issues five free passes in loss to the Mets

by Jon Mathisen | Diamondbacks Correspondent | Sun, May 9th 12:28pm EDT

RHP Merrill Kelly took a loss on Saturday when he allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits with five walks and six punchouts in a 4-2 loss to the Mets.

Fantasy Impact:

Kelly was coming off a short stint on the injured list so they may have had something to do with his control issues. He issued a season-worst five free passes over his 5 2/3 innings. He was still able to battle and strike out six while holding the Mets to three runs (two earned). Jeff McNeil got him for a two-run shot in the bottom of the third inning. After a dreadful start, Kelly has pitched better of late. He's allowed five runs over his last 17 1/3 inning but still has a 5.40 ERA and 1.46 WHIP on the season. He gets the Marlins in his next start.
