Arizona Coyotes

Fantasy Impact: Coyotes general manager Bill Armstong delivered the news Thursday that Chychrun remains out for a while after suffering a setback from his wrist injury. Much of the league has been anticipating the return of perhaps the most valuable player on the trade market, but it appears he's still a ways away from game action. The 24-year-old tallied seven goals and 21 points in 47 games last season but broke out with 18 goals and 41 points across 56 games in the 2020-21 campaign.

Karel Vejmelka struggled between the pipes for the Coyotes Thursday, allowing six goals on 53 shots faced in the Coyotes' 6-2 loss to the Penguins.

Fantasy Impact: Vejmelka will have the unenviable task of playing behind an extremely suspect blueline in an attempt to give Coyotes fans something to cheer about this season. The 26-year-old still finished with a solid 3.68 GAA in 49 starts in net last season and fantasy owners should expect more of the same this season if forced to use the netminder.

Nick Ritchie was able to find the back of the net for the Coyotes Thursday, scoring two goals in a 6-2 loss to the Penguins.

Fantasy Impact: Ritchie is not known as a prolific scorer but should be a safe bet to finish in the 10-15 goal range for a Coyotes team desperate for more goal scoring capability. The 26-year-old should remain on waivers unless he catches fire for Arizona early on.

Shayne Gostisbehere notched two assists in the Coyotes' 6-2 loss to the Penguins.

Fantasy Impact: Gostisbehere will look to be involved more offensively in his second season with the Coyotes for a team desperate to get more consistent scoring. The 29-year-old will provide decent totals in multiple category leagues as long as you are ok with a poor plus/minus rating.

Phil Kessel picks up two assists

Thu, Apr 21st 1:41am EDT
By Sean Varin

It was another disappointing night at the office for the Coyotes, who have now lost eight straight. Kessel contributed two primary assists in the comeback effort in the third period on goals by Nathan Smith and Anton Stralman to help send the game to overtime where the team came up short and fell 4-3.

Fantasy Impact: Kessel moves to 41 assists on the year, bringing him to 48 points. The Coyotes have been in free fall mode since the trade deadline and most players will be matchup dependent.

By David Leonard

Hayton scored the lone Arizona goal in their loss to the Golden Knights.

Fantasy Impact: Arizona's forward is up to 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists) in 50 games this year.

Schmaltz scored the lone Coyotes goal in their loss to the Blues.

Fantasy Impact: Arizona's forward is enjoying his best season since 2017-18 when he was with Chicago. He's up to 49 points (21 goals, 28 assists) in 51 games.

Clayton Keller suffered a scary injury on Wednesday and had to be stretchered off the ice.

Fantasy Impact: Clayton Keller took a nasty spill into the boards late in the 3rd period against the San Jose Sharks. The injury does not look good and it appears Keller could miss an extended period of time. The 23-year-old is having an incredible season and was on pace for a career year. Keller is leading the Coyotes in scoring by 15 with 63 points (28 goals, 35 assists) in 67 games. If the fifth year winger does miss an extended period of time it will certainly be a blow to managers that roster him.

Crouse had the only assist on the Coyotes second period goal then he scored a power play goal in the third period of their defeat at the hands of San Jose.

Fantasy Impact: Arizona's forward reach the 20 goal mark for the first time in what has become a breakout season.

Wedgewood came up with some big saves to keep the Coyotes in this game, as his offense was not generating much with only six shots-on-goal through two periods. The goalkeeper definitely outperformed the home teams Filip Gustavsson though, who allowed four goals on 14 shots-faced. The Coyotes came away with a 5-3 victory.

Fantasy Impact: The goalie logged a .930 save-percentage with three goals-allowed in the win. He moves to 10-13-3 with a .910 save-percentage and 3.16 goals-against-average.

Mayo picked up an assist in Arizona's loss to Boston.

Fantasy Impact: The young Coyotes defenseman has got his point streak (1 goal, 4 assists) to four games.

Category: Game Recaps

Eriksson was in on the first goal of the game to Jakob Chychrun and later in the second period to new-addition Nick Ritchie. The Coyotes fell 5-3.

Fantasy Impact: The two helpers bring his total to 11, moving his total points up to 12. It has been a slow season for Eriksson to say the least.

Galchenyuk has been on fire as of late, scoring off the rebound attempt with a beautiful backhander to put it past Brian Elliot. The Coyotes had a nice possession in the Lightning zone, with some great passing from Janis Moser, who picked up his fourth assist, and the always reliable Clayton Keller, who picked up his 23rd assist. The score came at the end of the first period to keep it competitive, but the end result was not what the Coyotes were hoping for with a 4-3 home loss.

Fantasy Impact: Gelchenyuk has been hot off the All-Star break. He now has three points in his last two games, and will look to keep it going against the Los Angeles Kings after the upcoming eight game layoff. The goal puts him at four on the year.

Anton Stralman helps with a goal

Thu, Feb 10th 1:32am EST
By Sean Varin

Stralman helped keep momentum going for the Coyotes by contributing his third goal of the year at the 1:52 mark of the third period to make it 3-1, shortly after the Kraken pulled within one by scoring their first goal of the game at the 0:16 mark of the third, which made it 2-1, by Colin Blackwell (5).

Fantasy Impact: Not much fantasy news from Anton. He picked up a point and a block to add to his third period goal. The goal helped keep the momentum with the Coyotes after deflating the Kraken, who scored immediately out of the second intermission.

Antoine Roussel scored the only goal in the Coyotes' 1-0 win over the Jets on Monday. He was a plus one with one goal, two SOG, one hit and two blocks in 12:28 of ice-time.

Fantasy Impact: It is astonishing that a man with three points on the season has goals in back-to-back games. Yet this is the case and he should be owned in 0% of leagues.

Ryan Dzingel scores on Thursday

Fri, Nov 19th 5:31pm EST
By Jeremy Farr

Ryan Dzingel found the back of the net in Arizona's 5-4 defeat to the Columbus Blue Jackets. He finished the game with a point, a plus-1 rating, five PIM's, one shot and one hit.

Fantasy Impact: This was Dzingel's first goal of the season and it was nice screened wristshot from the top of the circle. Despite gaining the lead early they eventually lost and the Coyotes record fell to an abysmal 2-13-2

Andrew Ladd found the back of the net in Arizona's 2-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. He finished the game with a goal, an even-rating, two PIMs, one shots, one block and three hits.

Fantasy Impact: His goal came on the man advantage. He made a nifty move at the point to get clear, skated into the slot and let a wrister go that beat Marc-Andre Fleury. The Desert Dogs lost the game and have one win on the season.

Boyd provided his secondary assist on the Coyotes' final goal in the 5-2 loss.

Fantasy Impact: He has two points in his previous two games, but playing on the third line in the putrid Arizona offense gives him no fantasy value.

Category: Game Recaps

Antti Raanta stopped 31-of-34 shots during a 4-1 loss to Minnesota.

Fantasy Impact: In nine games this season, Raanta has a 4-3-2 record with a 3.36 GAA and .912 SV%. In his last five games, he has gone 2-2-1 with 12 goals allowed in that span.

Category: Game Recaps

Darcy Kuemper stopped 39-of-40 shots during Arizona's 4-1 win versus Nashville. The Coyotes are now up 2-1 in the best-of-five qualifying round series.

Fantasy Impact: He has played in all three games of the series and is 2-1 with eight goals allowed total. Kuemper has played well with a .928 save percentage.
