FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Monday (5/15)

Welcome to Monday edition of the FanDuel MLB value plays. We have a smaller seven-game slate to work with tonight on FanDuel. This article will not include the Rays/Indians game, since it is not part of the main slate. However, if you are playing the all day slate you will definitely want to use a pitcher from either side of that game. As always, be sure to check out the weather and the team lineups throughout the day. Let’s go ahead and take a look at my favorite value options for tonight.

Pitcher

Luis Perdomo (SD): $6,600 vs. MIL
Perdomo has actually been pitching really well so far this season with a 2.96 FIP and a respectable 7.94 K/9. The Brewers’ offense is capable of putting up runs in bunches, but they do strike out at the third-highest rate against right-handed pitchers this season. On top of that, they have a huge negative park shift from Miller Park to Petco and Ryan Braun is currently on the disabled list.

Catcher

Yasmani Grandal (LAD): $2,900 at SF
Since there is not a top dollar pitcher to spend up for tonight, there should not be any reason to completely punt at any position. Grandal is an excellent hitter against right-handed pitchers, with a 0.394 wOBA and a 0.216 ISO. Matt Cain on the other hand, has really struggled against left-handed hitters this season, allowing a 0.384 wOBA.

First Base

Justin Bour (MIA): $3,100 vs. HOU
Value at first base is pretty ugly for tonight’s slate and I do not recommend dipping below Bour at $3,100. Bour really has some pop as shown by his 0.208 ISO against right-handed pitchers this season. Joe Musgrove has really struggled so far in 2017 with a 5.39 FIP and a 3.11 BB/9.

Second Base

Jed Lowrie (OAK) : $2,900 at SEA
Lowrie has finally seen his salary jump from barely above the minimum salary to nearly $3,000. I still think he is a solid value option on this slate since he hits in the two-hole for the A’s and he has a decent matchup against Yovani Gallardo. Gallardo has been decent so far in 2017, but I’m not buying that he has suddenly figured things out after being awful over the past couple of seasons.

Third Base

Yangervis Solarte (SD): $2,800 vs. MIL
Third base is another position where the value options are really not that attractive. I honestly suggest paying up here, but if you do want to go the value route Solarte may actually be your best option at the moment under $3,000. Solarte has not been great by any means this season, but he has been better from the left side of the plate. Tonight he has a solid matchup against Chase Anderson, who has allowed a 0.370 wOBA and a hard contact rate of 45.2% to left-handed hitters in 2017.

Shortstop

Nick Ahmed (ARI) : $2,800 vs. NYM
Ahmed has been on fire lately for the Diamondbacks, with eight hits in his last five starts. The matchup may not seem the greatest on paper against Zack Wheeler, but Wheeler has an extremely negative park shift as he will be pitching in of the best hitters’ parks in all of baseball.

Outfielders

Joc Pederson (LAD) : $2,600 at SF
Joc has not been doing too great this season, but he still is making quite a bit of hard contact with a 35.1% hard contact rate. It should be only a matter of time until he starts hitting some home runs in bunches, and it could very well begin tonight against Matt Cain, who I already mentioned has struggled this season.

Kole Calhoun (LAA): $3,000 vs. CWS
Similar to Pederson, Calhoun does not exactly have great numbers so far in 2017. However, he has done much better against right-handed pitchers than left=handed pitchers, and tonight he has an outstanding matchup against Mike Pelfrey, who has been awful over the past couple of seasons.

Leury Garcia (CWS) : $2,600 at LAA
Garcia has hit leadoff for the White Sox over the past three games and he been on fire over the past ten days with 12 hits, including two home runs. Jesse Chavez is probably not someone who we want to stack with (especially with the White Sox), but it is difficult to ignore someone who is swinging a hot bat, is only $2,600 and is likely to continue to hit at the top of the order.
