Sunday Stash Report: Week 5 (Fantasy Football)

Sunday Stash Report: Week 5 (Fantasy Football)

The Sunday Stash Report continues ahead of Week 6 after a very damaging Week 5 that saw a lot of important names go down. Last week’s Stash Report, not to toot my own horn, could end up being one of the most important ones of the season as some names on that list became hot waiver pickups.

Fantasy owners are fresh off another week of injuries, and more underperformance from guys we thought might emerge (looking at you again Samaje Perine). The goal here is to put a guy or two on the back of your roster that isn’t necessarily going to help you this week but instead next week or shortly after that.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins (TE – NYJ)
This is not the first time he’s appeared here. The reason he’s here again is because his ownership percentage is too low. For starters, the Browns are awful against the TE, so ASJ is a legit streaming option this week.

But more importantly, the state of the TE in fantasy is pathetic right now. There are legitimately three good TEs. That’s it.

The Jets can’t stretch the field and ASJ is a matchup nightmare. Why not?

Elijah McGuire (RB – NYJ)
Back to back Jets? Blasphemy! I was initially going to leave McGuire out because I figured he would be scooped up mostly everywhere, but that hasn’t been the case.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Matt Forte didn’t play another game for the Jets. The Jets seem to like McGuire and may even prefer him over Powell. Remember, Powell is no spring chicken.

McGuire will be given every opportunity to prove he can be the Jets’ RB of the future. If he plays well against the Browns, he will cost a lot more next week.

Mitch Trubisky (QB – CHI)
Here’s the deal. Mitch Trubisky is legit. The Bears were scoffed at for trading up to get Trubisky.

That reaction was in error. It was a brilliant move because Trubisky is their QB of the future. This move comes about four weeks too late for the Bears, but in plenty of time for fantasy owners.

Trubisky may not be more than a fringe starter as a rookie, but if Deshaun Watson can emerge as a fantasy force, why not Trubisky? His weapons aren’t great, but if you can afford to take a shot on the top QB taken in this year’s draft, do it before we get to see him play. Worst case, you drop him on Tuesday.

Deonte Thompson (WR – CHI)
This one goes hand in hand with Trubisky. The rookie worked a lot with Deonte Thompson on the second team before all of the starting WRs went down. Trubisky may lean on Thompson more than Kendall Wright. It’s admittedly a hunch based on an expectation of some level of rapport and preference.

Thompson saw nine targets from Mike Glennon last week. If he sees that from Trubisky, he could be a viable player off your bench.

Trent Taylor (WR – SF)
The 49ers are running out of WRs after Marquise Goodwin suffered yet another concussion. Trent Taylor was the immediate beneficiary last week, seeing 10 targets. He could settle in as the second option in the 49ers passing game after Pierre Garcon.

Taylor’s workout metrics are interesting as his 40 time, speed score, burst score, and catch radius are awful, but his agility score is amongst the best in the league. For lack of a better description, he’s shifty.

Talent aside, he’s proven he can play in the NFL, and if he has the volume, he could be a useful flex option. If you can only stash one player on this list, go with Taylor.

Corey Clement (RB – PHI)
With Doug Pederson insistent upon his weekly RB carousel, why not take a shot on the guy that could lead the team in touches this week? With Darren Sproles done for the season and Wendell Smallwood unlikely to play, LeGarrette Blount won’t be the only guy.

Clement has had some moments this year and could play half the snaps or more if he and Kenjon Barner are the only other healthy RBs on this team. If Clement shows well, he could play his way into a more secure role.

Kenyan Drake (RB – MIA)
This is for deep leaguers only as there’s no guarantee that even if everything breaks right that Kenyan Drake will be useful. His name is purely here so that you see it and it is floating around in your head. Something is not right with Jay Ajayi.

Maybe it’s his knee. Maybe it’s the Dolphins’ offensive line. Maybe it’s Jay Cutler’s apathy.

Your guess is as good as mine. But watching Ajayi, something is simply not right. Drake is the number two back and could be useful similar to how Theo Riddick was useful in 2016 (certainly not this year) if we were to find out that Ajayi was suddenly going to miss a huge chunk of games.

He is the least important name on this list to stash, but if for some reason you have a free roster spot, no one else on this list is available, and you just want to throw someone on your bench just in case, I’m throwing Drake into the mix as an option.
