Bobby Sylvester’s 2019 Week 3 Rankings (Start or Sit Answers)

Bobby Sylvester’s 2019 Week 3 Rankings (Start or Sit Answers)

We are hours away from Gardner Minshew and the Jacksonville Jaguars welcoming in the Titans for Thursday night football. If you’ve got start/sit questions, I’m here to answer them all with my rankings. I’ll post this article every Thursday afternoon to help you make your most challenging decisions each week. If you aren’t reading it until Saturday or Sunday, don’t worry, I’ll continue to update it every few hours for you all. As always, if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to reach out on Twitter @bobbyfantasypro. Before we dive into the rankings, let me tell you about four start/sit options that I am especially opinionated about this week.

Matthew Stafford (DET): QB #13 vs ECR 17 @ PHI
If you are rostering Jared Goff, Baker Mayfield or especially Cam Newton, it may be in your best interest to just pick up Stafford as a streamer for Week 3. The Lions’ running game hasn’t been able to do much of anything so far this season and if anything, it will only get worse in a brutal matchup against the Eagles’ NFL-best front seven. Rather, they’ll have to pass the ball if they want to put any points on the board, and you can be sure it is going to happen often with a negative game script brewing. Keep in mind, Stafford was a top 10 fantasy QB in three straight seasons before playing with a fracture in his back last season.

Frank Gore (BUF) — RB #24 vs ECR #34 vs CIN
Laugh it up, I get it, but the old man can still get the job done, and he’s going to have to with Devin Singletary likely out for Week 3 with a hamstring strain. Remember when Jeff Wilson, Raheem Mostert and Matt Breida combined for 240 rushing yards last week? That came against the Bengals, who quite possibly have the worst run defense in the NFL. Give Frank Gore, or legitimately any running back in the NFL, 15 carries against this unit and I’ll be they finish in the top 30 backs.

Randall Cobb (DAL): WR #40 vs ECR #50 vs MIA
So far this season, Amari Cooper has 14 targets, Michael Gallup has 15, Randall Cobb has 11 and the rest of the Cowboys receivers have just 4 combined. Gallup is now out for a month, and while Cooper is always startable, he’ll draw shadow coverage by Xavien Howard, who is by far the best player remaining on the Dolphins and likely a top 5 corner in football. Minkah Fitzpatrick was traded which means Cobb will be going up against what would be a third-string corner on virtually any other team in football. Keep in mind, Vegas has the Cowboys implied for 35 points this weekend.

Kyle Rudolph (MIN): TE #12 vs ECR #17 vs OAK
Rudolph hasn’t done much through two weeks, but he is third on the team in targets behind Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. The Vikings have their easiest matchup of the season so far through the air and it’s especially easy at the right end position. Kirk Cousins could be in for a big week since the Raiders have the worst pass rush in football and Cousins transforms to a terrific QB when he isn’t under pressure so if you need to replace David Njoku or Hunter Henry with a streamer, Rudolph should be at or near the top of your list.
