Fantasy Football Studs & Duds: Week 12

Fantasy Football Studs & Duds: Week 12

The 12th NFL Sunday is in the books, so let’s take a moment to reflect on the good (Tennessee Titans), bad (Matt Ryan), and ugly (Oakland Raiders) from a fantasy football point of view. Take note that fantasy scores are listed in terms of half PPR scoring, and you can see the complete player results over at the nifty FantasyPros sortable results page.

STUDS

Chris Godwin (WR – TB): 38.9 FP
Your top overall fantasy producer of Week 12 (heading into Monday Night Football) is Chris Godwin. That holds true regardless if you are using the half or full PPR scoring method. Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston overcame a pair of interceptions to lead the Bucs’ offense to victory in Atlanta. His favorite receiver was Godwin, who caught 7-of-8 targets for 184 yards and two touchdowns. Godwin and teammate Mike Evans will probably continue to trade big performances throughout the rest of the season. Sunday was definitely Godwin’s time to shine.

Leonard Fournette (RB – JAC): 32.4 FP
Who pegged the Jaguars-Titans to be one of the highest-scoring games of the week? There were plenty of fireworks in this one, and Fournette emerged with 159 total yards and two touchdowns in the 42-20 loss. It was nice to see the Jacksonville running back finally hit paydirt, as he has been seemingly allergic to the end zone this season. Fournette could be in store for another solid showing vs. Tampa Bay next Sunday.

Jarvis Landry (WR – CLE): 31.8 FP
The Browns’ offense finally lived up to expectations in Week 12. Baker Mayfield and Nick Chubb posted solid numbers, and Odell Beckham Jr. scored a touchdown. However, Jarvis Landry stepped in as the top fantasy producer for Cleveland, catching 10-of-13 targets for 148 yards and two touchdowns against his former team. Landry is clearly benefitting from opposing defenses’ attempts to limit Chubb and Beckham. The Browns have a tough task against divisional foe Pittsburgh next week.

Christian McCaffrey (RB – CAR): 29.8 FP
This isn’t a true “stud section” without mentioning Christian McCaffrey. The fantasy MVP was back to his high-upside ways despite a tough matchup (on paper) at New Orleans. McCaffrey tallied 133 total yards and two touchdowns on Sunday, which seems to be his baseline nowadays. The Panthers running back has now racked up 303 fantasy points this season, which leads all positions.

Also: Derrick Henry (RB – TEN), DeAndre Hopkins (WR – HOU), Nick Chubb (RB – CLE), Baker Mayfield (QB – CLE)

OUT OF NOWHERE

Ryan Tannehill (QB – TEN): 32.4 FP
Both Derrick Henry and Ryan Tannehill got in the fantasy action on Sunday, as Tannehill finished as the top fantasy quarterback. I’m going to let that sink in for a moment. He benefitted from a pair of rushing touchdowns (and 40 yards) to go alongside 259 passing yards and two scores through the air. The rushing production is unsustainable, so take that with a grain of salt. His fantasy backers in Week 12 probably don’t mind either way.

D.J. Moore (WR – CAR): 28.4 FP
A breakout was coming for D.J. Moore, as he has been a target monster over the past month or so. That finally translated to solid fantasy production as he hauled in 6-of-9 targets for 126 yards and two touchdowns against the Saints. Moore is turning into a reliable fantasy receiver this season, and he’s looking at a pair of generous matchups (Washington and Atlanta) in the next few weeks.

Sam Darnold (QB – NYJ): 28.2 FP
Darnold is your QB2 on the week. The Jets posted 34 points for the third straight game, and Darnold spearheaded that outburst once again. The Jets’ QB threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns while adding a score on the ground as well. There’s a good chance that Darnold and company continue to impress while facing Cincinnati and Miami in their next two games.

A.J. Brown (WR – TEN): 21.5 FP
As mentioned earlier, Tennessee quarterback Ryan Tannehill had an efficient day while throwing a pair of touchdowns. Brown snagged one of those scores while adding 135 yards on four receptions. He’ll continue to be a boom-or-bust fantasy receiver who depends solely on making big plays. With that in mind, he has a good matchup against the Colts for Week 13.

Also: Jameis Winston (QB – TB), Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB – MIA), Jets Defense, Jared Cook (TE – NO)

DUDS

Matt Ryan (QB – ATL): 8.6 FP
Ryan killed plenty of DFS lineups on Sunday, as he was seemingly set up with a beautiful matchup against the Buccaneers. Things didn’t go his way though, throwing for 271 yards and an interception with no touchdowns. A tough matchup against the Saints is on deck.

Aaron Jones (RB – GB): 3.8 FP
We didn’t expect Aaron Jones to run all over this stout 49ers’ defense, but 3.8 fantasy points really hurt his supporters in Week 12. Facing the Giants and Redskins in his next two games should help make up for this down performance.

Josh Jacobs (RB – OAK): 4.1 FP and Derek Carr (QB – OAK): 5.2 FP
The Raiders left their offense (well, their defense too) back in California while getting trounced 34-3 at the Jets. As that score would indicate, nobody from Oakland’s side had a noteworthy fantasy performance. Rooke of the Year candidate Josh Jacobs was held to 36 total yards, and Derek Carr only had 127 passing yards with an interception. The Raiders will look to regroup next week at Kansas City.

Also: Dak Prescott (QB – DAL), Tyler Lockett (WR – SEA), Mike Evans (WR – TB), Courtland Sutton (WR – DEN)
