DraftKings MLB Lineup Advice: Wednesday (8/2)

DraftKings MLB Lineup Advice: Wednesday (8/2)

There are 12 games on the main slate for Wednesday, and it doesn’t look like the weather will play a big role this evening, outside of a few contests with a mild risk of pop up thunderstorms. Let’s take a look at a tournament lineup for DraftKings.

Pitcher

Jake Arrieta (CHC): $10,300 vs. ARI
The Diamondbacks have been in the middle of the pack against right-handed pitching over the past couple of weeks, but what really sticks out is their elevated strikeout rate (27.5%). They already struck out above league average, but this recent trend gives Arrieta a nice boost at home tonight. Pitching gets ugly very quick tonight, and with Dallas Keuchel still a bit of a risky proposition, it makes sense to lock Arrieta into your lineups.

J.C. Ramirez (LAA): $7,200 vs. PHI
The Phillies have been rolling against right-handed pitching over the last two weeks (as well as the past month), so there’s definitely some risk involved with Ramirez tonight. That being said, Philadelphia has one of the lower implied run totals on the evening, so there might be a chance Ramirez can dance out of trouble. He possesses an average strikeout rate, but with the Phillies striking out above league average against right-handed pitching, Ramirez gets a bit of a boost. As I noted earlier, starting pitching is downright awful tonight, so taking a calculated risk here isn’t the worst idea.

Other Notables

Catcher

Matt Wieters (WAS): $2,400 @ MIA
I’m a big proponent of punting catcher this evening, as it’s not a fun position to fill, and it allows you to load up on hitters at other positions. Wieters has just seven hits over his last 33 at-bats (.212 AVG), which further enhances the risk involved that is already present with targeting a hitter low in the order. The bright side is that he is part of a powerful offense who will be facing a mediocre pitcher in Vance Worley, so there is a touch of upside.

Other Notables

First Base

Yulieski Gurriel (HOU): $3,600 vs. TB
Gurriel has cooled off after a strong start to July, but he has a good chance to get things rolling again tonight against Austin Pruitt. The Astros are a stacked offense from top to bottom, which enhances the value of virtually every hitter in the lineup. Pruitt is nothing to be afraid of, as he’s simply a rotational filler until Jake Odorizzi returns from the disabled list, so don’t shy away from picking on him this evening.

Other Notables

Second Base

Jonathan Schoop (BAL): $4,100 vs. KC
Schoop is white hot and yet his price remains incredibly affordable given his recent production. He will hold the platoon advantage over Jason Vargas tonight, who has been susceptible to right-handed power this season (11 home runs allowed; 31.4% hard contact rate). Over his last 10 games (40 at-bats), Schoop is hitting .350 with four home runs and 11 runs batted in, which is phenomenal production for the price.

Other Notables

Third Base

Manny Machado (BAL): $4,000 vs. KC
Speaking of hot, Machado is raking at the plate right now as well (.350 AVG in last 40 at-bats), but he hasn’t hit a home run over that span. The encouraging statistic to note is the six doubles, which help to ease the sting of Machado not hitting any home runs as of late. He is a cheap leverage play away from Nolan Arenado, who should be extremely popular tonight.

Other Notables

Shortstop

Marcus Semien (OAK): $3,900 @ SF
Semien is rolling right now, as he’s hit .317 over his last 41 at-bats to go with three home runs and eight runs batted in. He got off to a slow start after a lengthy stay on the disabled list, but Semien has really turned things around at the plate as of late. He has a great shot at keeping things going in a positive direction tonight against Matt Moore, who has been susceptible to right-handed hitters this season (.327 wOBA, 12 home runs allowed, 34.5% hard contact rate).

Other Notables

Outfielders

Charlie Blackmon (COL): $5,500 vs. NYM
The Rockies have an implied run total pushing into the upper 6s, so be sure to load up on this game as they face a Double A fill in pitcher in Chris Flexen. Flexen didn’t last long in his major league debut against the Padres, so I don’t expect him to fare much better in the elite hitting environment that is Coors Field.

Mike Trout (LAA): $5,300 vs. PHI
Trout continues to do everything for the Angels, and he’s in a position to continue that trend tonight against Jake Thompson. Thompson looked fairly decent against the struggling Braves in a spot start last week, but he will likely be no much for the superstar that is Mike Trout.

Carlos Gonzalez (COL): $3,600 vs. NYM
Gonzalez has quietly put together a nice stretch of production over the past two weeks, as he’s collected 13 hits over his last 40 at-bats (.325 AVG). The glaring issue, of course, is the lack of power, as he hasn’t hit a home run since June 20th. Gonzalez is a very streaky hitter, and while he’s seemingly been in a funk for most of the season, a date with an overmatched, young pitcher, could be exactly what he needs to fix his power woes.
