Fantasy Football Feast or Famine: Week 4 (2019)

Fantasy Football Feast or Famine: Week 4 (2019)

For most experts and owners alike, the 2019 fantasy season has gotten off to a strange start. Lamar Jackson has gone toe-to-toe with Patrick Mahomes, while Aaron Rodgers has scored fewer points than Gardner Minshew. If you had Sammy Watkins, D.J. Chark, Terry McLaurin, John Ross, and Marquise Brown inside your top 12 receivers, congratulations.

While quarterbacks and receivers have been easy to come by, finding quality running backs and tight ends has been a frustrating task.

Trying to navigate through the 2019 fantasy season can prove to be quite difficult, which is why the industry has experts to help make it easier for you. Unlike everyone on Twitter (#sarcasm), not all experts agree on everything. I’m here to look at the players with the biggest discrepancies in ECR and try predict whether they will feast or get O.J. Howard-treatment. So, here goes…

Aaron Rodgers (QB – GB)
Highest rank: QB1. Lowest rank: QB18.

Prior to limiting Matthew Stafford to 201 yards and a score in Week 3, the Eagles gave up 380 yards and 3 touchdowns to Case Keenum and 320 yards and 3 touchdowns to Matt Ryan. Philadelphia’s secondary already had their weaknesses, and they will be without corner Ronald Darby for the foreseeable future. This is a prime position Aaron Rodgers to put up a Rodgers-esque performance.

Prediction: Feast

Tom Brady (QB -NE)
Highest rank: QB4. Lowest rank: QB21

In his last four games against the Bills, Tom Brady’s average stat line is cringeworthy: 233 passing yards, fewer than one touchdown pass, and one interception per game. What’s wild is that the Patriots have won those games by an average of 18 points. Most people are expecting New England to win – which is fair – but that doesn’t mean that Brady will post a QB1 performance. He’s a fade this week.

Prediction: Famine

Jared Goff (QB – LAR)
Highest rank: QB2. Lowest rank: QB19.

I’m going to keep riding Jared Goff’s home/road splits until people start ranking him appropriately or the numbers begin to even out. Since the start of the 2018 season, Goff is averaging a whopping 24.6 fantasy points at home and a mere 14.3 points on the road. His only QB1 finish in three tries this season came in his lone home start in Week 2. The Bucs just allowed Daniel Jones to finish as the QB2 last week, and there’s upside for Goff to do the same.

Prediction: Feast

Josh Jacobs (RB – OAK)
Highest rank: RB11. Lowest rank: RB36.

Through three games the Colts have allowed a whopping 426 total yards and 4 touchdowns to the running back position. Jacobs has been game-script dependent so far to begin his career, and this could be a game that favors him as the Colts haven’t shown the ability to pull away – and that will especially be true if T.Y. Hilton is forced to miss the game. Jacobs is a fringe RB1 for this one.

Prediction: Feast

Adrian Peterson (RB – WAS)
Highest rank: RB18. Lowest rank: RB45

Not all things are created equal, but in this spot last year Peterson posted 166 total yards and 2 scores. The Giants don’t have much talent on the defensive side of the ball, and it’s quite possible that Washington will need to lean on AP to keep pace with Danny Dimes. Peterson is a high-upside play in Week 3.

Prediction: Feast

Todd Gurley (RB – LAR)
Highest rank: RB4. Lowest rank: RB27.

Tampa Bay has been fantastic against the run, and Gurley hasn’t looked particularly explosive to begin the season – so naturally he’ll probably finish as the RB1. All kidding aside the Bucs have been funneling to the pass and the Rams have the weapons to make them pay, which could limit Gurley’s role in this one.

Prediction: Famine

Davante Adams (WR – GB)
Highest rank: WR1. Lowest rank: WR17

The last time Davante Adams didn’t reach the end zone in four consecutive games was in 2015. The Eagles have already allowed four different receivers to go for over 100 yards and at least one touchdown. Rodgers has been talking all week about needing to get Adams more looks. This is a smash spot for the 26-year-old.

Prediction: Feast

Sterling Shepard (WR – NYG)
Highest rank: WR9. Lowest rank: WR47.

Through three weeks the Redskins have allowed three different receivers to score multiple touchdowns against them. In total Washington has given up 622 yards and 9 touchdowns to the receiver position … and we’re only in Week 4. In his first game with Daniel Jones, Shepard received 9 targets and 2 carries for a total of 121 yards and a touchdown. He’s in a great position again this week.

Prediction: Feast

Will Dissly (TE – SEA)
Highest rank: TE3. Lowest rank: TE14.

There’s always that one team that is laughingly bad at defending the tight end position and this year it’s none other than the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are on pace to allow 1,856 yards and 27 touchdowns to tight ends in 2019.

Dissly has garnered 12 targets over his last two games for a total of 112 yard and 3 touchdowns. He’s a top-six option in Week 4.

Prediction: Feast
