DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (8/3)

DRAFT MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (8/3)

Considering when you decide to play on DRAFT, you could have the full 15-game slate or as little as four games in your schedule: 15 games (2:20 pm EST start), 14 games (7:05 pm EST start), and four games (9:40 pm EST start).

Five games have an over/under of at least nine total runs, with the BAL/TEX matchup leading the way with 11.5 total runs, as Texas is the favorite. Speaking of favorites, five teams are favored by at least -200 odds, according to some books: Cubs, Diamondbacks, Rays, Indians, and Twins.

This article is posted well before lineups are released by the managers. If you have a question, feel free to reach me on Twitter @CharlieSideHstl.

Vegas has provided us with two games having an over/under of seven total runs: HOU/LAD and ATL/NYM. Both favorites, the Astros and Mets, have their pitcher at the top of our rankings. Verlander has struck out at least seven batters in five of the last six performances and has allowed two earned runs, or less, in nine of the last 10 appearances. His Astros travel to Dodger Stadium to play an interleague game. JV will not have to worry about a DH on Friday night.

Second in our rankings is deGrom. He’s punched out at least seven batters in eight of the last 10 starts and allowed three earned runs, or less, in every appearance during that span. He’s also faced the Braves four times this season and deGrom has dominated. Even though he’s 0-1 in four starts, deGrom has a 0.72 ERA and has struck out 31 batters in 25 innings against Atlanta.

Infielders

1. Jose Ramirez, CLE (vs. LAA)

2. Francisco Lindor, CLE (vs. LAA)

3. Trea Turner, WSH (vs. CIN)

4. Khris Davis, OAK (vs. DET)

5. Rougned Odor, TEX (vs. BAL)

6. Eugenio Suarez, CIN (@ WSH)

7. Paul Goldschmidt, ARI (vs. SF)

8. Eduardo Escobar, ARI (vs. SF)

9. Giancarlo Stanton, NYY (@ BOS)

10. Edwin Encarnacion, CLE (vs. LAA)

11. Nelson Cruz, SEA (vs. TOR)

12. Nolan Arenado, COL (@ MIL)

13. Didi Gregorius, NYY (@ BOS)

14. Alex Bregman, HOU (@ LAD)

15. Miguel Sano, MIN (vs. KC)

16. J.D. Martinez, BOS (vs. NYY)

17. Anthony Rendon, WSH (vs. CIN)

18. Javier Baez, CHC (vs. SD)

19. Anthony Rizzo, CHC (vs. SD)

20. Logan Morrison, MIN (vs. KC)

The Nationals are projected to score 5.6 runs on Friday, second-most on the slate. In the past week, Turner leads the Nats with 11 hits (.393 AVG), notching two doubles and one home run during that span. He’s also tallied two stolen bases in four of the last five contests.

Leading the slate with an impressive 6.5 implied runs on Friday is Texas. Odor is my top choice from the infielders in their player pool. He’s 8-for-19 (.421) with two doubles and four home runs in the past seven days. Odor also has a .217 ISO against right-handed pitchers since 2017.

Outfielders

1. Mike Trout, LAA (@ CLE)

2. Mookie Betts, BOS (vs. NYY)

3. Christian Yelich, MIL (vs. COL)

4. A.J. Pollock, ARI (vs. SF)

5. Bryce Harper, WSH (vs. CIN)

6. Starling Marte, PIT (vs. STL)

7. Carlos Gonzalez, COL (@ MIL)

8. Gregory Polanco, PIT (vs. STL)

9. Rhys Hoskins, PHI (vs. MIA)

10. Andrew Benintendi BOS (vs. NYY)

11. Juan Soto, WSH (vs. CIN)

12. Charlie Blackmon, COL (@ MIL)

13. Shin-Soo Choo, TEX (vs. BAL)

14. David Peralta, ARI (vs. SF)

15. Eddie Rosario, MIN (vs. KC)

16. Joey Gallo, TEX (vs. BAL)

17. Adam Eaton, WSH (vs. CIN)

18. Brett Gardner, NYY (@ BOS)

19. Michael Brantley, CLE (vs. LAA)

20. Steven Souza Jr., ARI (vs. SF)

There is absolutely no stopping Yelich at this moment. He leads all of baseball with 12 hits in the past week. Yelich is 12-of-30 (.400) with four doubles and two home runs during that span. On Thursday, he tallied three hits, with one double and a home run. His Brewers will face German Marquez on Friday. Marquez is allowing lefties to bat .291 against him this season.

While Severino can be an intimidating presence on the mound, Benintendi doesn’t seem scared. In his career, Benintendi is 10-for-22 (.455) with five extra-base hits (two home runs) against Severino. Also, Benintendi has notched at least two hits in three of the last five contests. Severino has allowed six earned runs in back-to-back starts, and at least three earned runs in four consecutive appearances.
