Fantasy Football Trade Chart (Week 5)

Fantasy Football Trade Chart (Week 5)

Every fantasy player has had that season where their draft simply didn’t go according to plan. Whether it was because you were trying out a new strategy, were beset by injuries, or simply made some bad decisions, your team is sinking.

But heading into Week 5, no season has been ruined. You may be sitting there at 0-4 with the lowest point total in the league. But it’s not over. Not by a longshot.

The playoffs are still 10 weeks away in most leagues. There’s plenty of time for things to rebound. But if you’re looking at your current squad and realizing that it just doesn’t make the grade, then you need to turn to the trade market to improve your team.

You know the deal by now: below is a trade chart to help you evaluate any deal as you venture out into the wonderful world of trading. Reminder: the trade chart is based on 12-team, 0.5 PPR points, so adjust accordingly if you play in other formats.

Quarterbacks

Player Current Value Previous Value +/-
Cam Newton 21 21
Drew Brees 21 23 -2
Patrick Mahomes 21 21
Aaron Rodgers 15 17 -2
Kirk Cousins 15 15
Deshaun Watson 15 15
Tom Brady 15 16 -1

Matt Ryan 11 9 +2
Philip Rivers 11 13 -2
Ben Roethlisberger 9 9
Matthew Stafford 7 7
Russell Wilson 7 15 -8
Andy Dalton 7 N/A +7

Reminder: don’t trade for a quarterback. Legitimately, the trade values for quarterbacks should only be employed if you are in that rare league where several backup quarterbacks are owned. In other words, if you’re looking like you might have to roll with Josh Allen at quarterback for the rest of the season, then go ahead and use these values as a guide. Otherwise, just muddle through with the waiver wire.

The big shakeup comes from the news that Le’Veon Bell is planning to report during the Steelers’ Week 7 bye, with plans to play in Week 8. This development obviously has a positive impact on Bell’s trade value, and a negative impact on James Conner‘s value. But there are several plausible scenarios here: The Steelers are reportedly still looking into potential trades involving Bell, and this news may actually increase that possibility. Or the Steelers may be angry with Bell for essentially tanking their season and may not go back to giving him a preposterous number of touches. Or, as he did at the start of last season after holding out in camp, Bell may take two or three weeks to fully regain his form. If you are looking to trade Bell or trade for him, you’re largely shooting in the dark. But, personally, in a 0.5 PPR format, I’d value him inside the top-10 running backs. If you’re 4-0 or 3-1, go ahead and see if you can make a move for him.

As for the remaining movement, the most notable movers come from injuries (Leonard Fournette and T.J. Yeldon, Joe Mixon), ineffectiveness (Lamar Miller), or their coaches’ decisions to not really involve them in the offense much anymore (Jordan Howard and Kenyan Drake). Really, just the ebbs and flows of a season, guys. Don’t get too worked up.

There’s a lot of movement in the wide receiver trade values this week. Most of it can be summed up in one-sentence bursts:

  • The Rams offense is really good, as are all three wide receivers
  • Alshon Jeffery certainly looked healthy and hit the ground running
  • Please ignore last week when I told you that you could, if you were in a pinch, drop Corey Davis. Rishard Matthews‘ departure and Marcus Mariota‘s return to health certainly improve his outlook. (Fine, that was two sentences)
  • Calvin Ridley is good, but if you think his value is too low, you’re probably going to get annoyed reading this trade chart each week
  • Larry Fitzgerald will be fine IF he gets healthy, but the news reports sound like his hamstring will be a lingering issue
  • I fully expect Chris Hogan to somehow go off after he now appears droppable

Tight Ends

Player Current Value Previous Value +/-
Travis Kelce 35 35
Zach Ertz 35 35
Rob Gronkowski 35 41 -6
Jared Cook 8 5 +3
Jordan Reed 8 8
George Kittle 8 5 +3
Trey Burton 8 8
Jimmy Graham 6 8 -2
Kyle Rudolph 6 8 -2
Eric Ebron 5 N/A +5
David Njoku 3 N/A +3

The only move here is that, until we see otherwise, there’s no reason to value Rob Gronkowski higher than Travis Kelce or Zach Ertz right now. But these three are the only ones worth worrying about, for the most part.
