Matthew Freedman’s NFL Week 3 Player Projections (2022)

In this piece are my personal NFL Week 3 projections for every fantasy- and prop-relevant player. I think. Maybe I missed a couple. That happens.

Some notes:

These projections are as of 12:15 am ET on Sunday. I won’t update them after publication, but I also doubt that my thoughts on most of the players herein will materially change before kickoff.
If you’re desirous to see an updated projections set closer to 1 pm ET on Sunday, check out our official Week 3 FantasyPros projections.
I’ve been a profitable prop bettor for a while, and I’ve been my best when going through the effort of creating projections to leverage in the market. If you want to use these projections to inform your prop betting process, I imagine that they’d be helpful.
There are two other resources you should consult — both at BettingPros — if you want to bet props: 1) Our Prop Bet Cheat Sheet and 2) Prop Bet Analyzer.

I think these projections are best used for betting props, not for making start/sit decisions in fantasy. As weird as this sounds — although this sort of makes sense to me — I’ve never had success converting my projections into rankings.

My projections have historically been good at identifying whether lines in the prop market are too high or low. But they have not been good at helping me order players relative to each other by fantasy points. Or at least not as good as the rankings I just manually come up with on my own.

The three years in which I decided to “save time” and “be more systematic” by using my weekly projections as rankings in the FantasyPros accuracy contest were by far my worst seasons.

2018: No. 45
2019: No. 43
2020: No. 103

Clearly, my projections suck as fantasy rankings.

But in all the other years — when I’ve created my rankings manually (as I do now), without deriving them from projections — I’ve been a top-20 ranker.

2015: No. 12
2016: No. 16
2017: No. 6
2021: No. 14
2022: No. 15 (so far)

So if you want to use my projections in order to make fantasy decisions, feel free.
